Robert Harrison, M.D.

Robert Harrison, M.D. is Head of the Endocrinology/Metabolism Division at the University of Rochester. He is a noted scientist who maintains a vigorous research program in fundamental molecular mechanisms in endocrinology. He has served on two NIH Study Sections. He has been a member of the FDA Advisory Committee on Endocrine and Metabolic Drugs and presently chairs the FDA Science Advisory Board to the Air Force Health Study.

In addition to his basic lab work, Dr. Harrison remains an outstanding clinical endocrinologist. He has played a major role in sensitizing the clinical research community to special aspects of health care of African Americans. His contributions have led to a better understanding of the particular health problems of minority populations. Dr. Harrison has been dealing effectively with the underrepresentation of African Americans in research studies. He has increased the impetus for assuring adequate numbers of minority individuals in research studies. Conversely, he has campaigned actively in minority communities to increase awareness of the clinical research process.
